Ramsey has enjoyed a lot of success in the girls' soccer state tournament in recent years, so the Rams had no plans to end their season this early. In a tense sectional quarterfinal game with Pequannock, Ramsey finally found the winning goal with eight minutes to play to squeeze out a 1-0 triumph. Kelly Redl scored off a corner kick to break the scoreless deadlock. The kick taken by Geeja Martone was initially headed by Nicole Moor; when her shot was blocked, Redl was there to knock in the loose ball.
Ramsey had the better of the opportunities over the course of the game, but Pequannock played well on defense and created several chances of its own. The sixth-seeded Panthers finish the season at 12-9. The third-seeded Rams are 14-3-2 and will go on the road to take on second seed Newton in the North 1, Group II semifinals on Monday. Ramsey won the Group II state title in 2011 and lost in the sectional final last season.
