Remy Meyer and Jack Dunican played the starring roles as Emerson Borough recorded a 2-0 boys' soccer victory over Waldwick. The win keeps the Cavos unbeaten after their first six games of the season. Meyer scored the first goal, heading in a corner kick, while also providing several key defensive plays for Emerson. Dunican was a huge offensive threat throughout the game and finally cashed in, scoring the clinching goal in the second half.
The two seniors were at either end of that pivotal play. With Waldwick threatening for the tying goal, Meyer blocked a shot just in front of his keeper. Ray Crouse then nudged the ball to Dunican, who took off on a 60-yard run. Beating three defenders, Dunican created room for his shot and found the far-side netting. Crouse had both assists for the Cavos, giving him eight for the season. Goalie Declan Patterman made six saves. Lucas Mainenti made 10 saves for Waldwick, which drops its first game of the season. The Warriors are 2-1-1. Emerson is now 5-0-1 overall, and 5-0 in the NJIC Patriot Division. The Cavos are looking to claim the division crown for the second straight season.
