VIDEO: High-powered Bergen Catholic holds off Don Bosco | ||
|
During its impressive start to the boys' soccer season, Bergen Catholic has shown the ability to strike from distance. That skill paid dividends as the Crusaders earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over rival Don Bosco Prep. Miles Franklyn and Michael Tramontozzi both finished off terrific runs with impressive shots for Bergen Catholic's first and last goals. Cole Bosch also scored for the Crusaders, while Joe Kelly and Henry Mouawad notched assists.
The Crusaders needed all their goals because Don Bosco showed its own ability to be dangerous offensively. The Ironmen struck twice in the second half, with Ben Sperzel recorded a goal and an assist. Brendan Haynes had the first Don Bosco tally, a header that hit the crossbar and was ruled to have crossed the goal line. After Tramontozzi's goal put Bergen Catholic up 3-1, Sperzel scored off a feed from Matthew McGovern to cut the lead to one again. The Ironmen were unable to put any more shots on the target in the final eight minutes of the game. Nick Vafiadis made five saves for Bergen Catholic. Kyle McLoughlin had six stops for Don Bosco, which falls to 4-3. Bergen Catholic maintains its unbeaten record at 5-0.
