DePaul was off to a strong start this girls' soccer season despite averaging just a single goal per game. So when the Spartans struck twice within three minutes early on against Holy Angels, it was a good sign. Indeed, DePaul went on to post its fourth consecutive victory, adding a goal in the second half to win 3-1. Alyssa Oviedo and Bryana Pelayo had a goal and an assist apiece for the Spartans.
Hunter Crespo opened the scoring about seven minutes into the game when she beat the goalkeeper to a deflected pass from Oviedo and put the ball in the empty net. Not long afterwards, Oviedo fired a shot from more than 25 yards away to double the DePaul lead. Pelayo got her goal less than two minutes after halftime, faking out a defender and then firing home from outside the penalty area. Gianna Rizzo picked up an assist on the play. Grace Moynihan broke the shutout for Holy Angels with under eight minutes to play on a long-range shot. It was only the third goal conceded by DePaul in eight games this season. Kerry Sammon made seven saves for the Angels, who fall to 3-5. DePaul is now 5-1-2.
