In a battle of two of North Jersey's top small-school boys' soccer teams, Pompton Lakes made a big statement. The Cardinals, led by a hat-trick from junior Carlo Gonzalez, defeated Glen Rock, 4-1. Gonzalez scored twice in the first half and added another goal shortly after halftime to give his side a three-goal edge. Matt Horn completed the scoring for Pompton Lakes, which remains unbeaten after seven games.
With the three goals, Gonzalez now has a total of eight this season. Jackson Hayes had three assists for the Cardinals. Michael Magyar also contributed an assist and Jason Dubrovich had three saves. Nick Rogers scored the only goal for Glen Rock, converting a penalty-kick opportunity with 11 minutes left in the game. Zach Fazal had six saves for the Panthers. Glen Rock is now 5-2. Pompton Lakes has won five consecutive games and improves to 6-0-1 overall on the soccer season.
