Top seed Park Ridge cruised to a first-round victory in the girls' soccer state tournament. The Owls scored all of their goals in the first half as they posted a 6-0 triumph over Elmwood Park to advance in North Jersey Section 1, Group I. Claire Perez scored twice and added an assist to lead Park Ridge. Dana DiBella also had a pair of goals as the Owls put up five goals in the first 20 minutes of the contest.
Nicole Thomas added a goal and an assist and Julia Wharton also scored for Park Ridge. Haley Raspanti, Tara Fahy and Kristina Anzilotti all contributed assists. Goalies Kelly McCann and Megan Ludwig made one save apiece for the shutout as Park Ridge dominated possession throughout. Elmwood Park, the 16th seed, got 19 saves from goalkeeper Nichole Sanchez. The Crusaders are 2-16. Park Ridge won its first 10 games of the season before hitting rougher waters. Now 16-3, the Owls will face ninth seed Kittatinny in Friday's sectional quarterfinals.
