For the second straight game, Montclair found a way past its crosstown rival in field hockey. This time, the Mounties trailed for much of the contest before rallying for a 2-1 victory over Montclair Kimberley. Mikayla Ullrich scored on a penalty stroke with under two minutes left in the game to provide the winning margin. Julia Albert scored the tying goal midway through the second half off a corner after the Mounties trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Montclair goalie Julie Schreiber made eight saves. She was also helped out by defender Keely Tierney, who kept the ball out of the goal three times. MKA took the lead in the first half when Izzy Mendez converted off an assist from Emma Pacifico. Hannah Gross made seven saves for the Cougars, who fall to 9-5. These two teams just met on Saturday in the Essex County Tournament semifinals, with that game also resulting in a 2-0 Montclair win. The Mounties, now 10-4, will face West Essex this coming weekend in the county final.
