Ramsey was Bergen County's top field hockey team this season. But West Essex is one of the elite teams in all of New Jersey, and the Knights put on a display of their talents in a 7-1 triumph over the Rams in the state sectional semifinal. Janelle Perillo and Lizzy Cimilluca scored twice apiece to lead the powerful West Essex offense. Perillo also recorded an assist. Jordyn Thies, Ashley Iannuzzi and Julia Russo had goals as well in an effort that demonstrated the depth of the Knights' roster.
The top two goal scorers for West Essex, Lia Sinisi and Gabby Girardi, did not find the cage, and yet the Knights were in complete control. Sinisi had one assist and Girardi recorded two. Demi Russo also had a pair of assists. Ramsey scored a goal on its first corner of the game, on a scramble in the circle. Annie Young popped home a rebound, only the fourth goal conceded all season by the Knights. West Essex goalie Paige Innarella had five saves.
