After conceding an early goal, the Montclair field hockey team fought back to earn a tough win over Randolph in the North 1, Group IV sectional semifinals. Missy Wrede posted two goals and an assist in the 3-2 triumph. The Mounties scored twice in under a minute late in the first half to take a 2-1 lead. Wrede scored the first goal, then set up Marley Schwartz for the go-ahead tally.
Midway through the second half, Wrede doubled the lead off a feed from Natalie Rechan. But Randolph would make things interesting in the final minutes. Taralyn Naslonski went on a long solo move to score with just over four minutes left to cut the lead to one. The Rams had a couple of opportunities in the final moments but never got a shot on goal. Naslonski had both goals for third-seeded Randolph. Erin Corrigan and Sarah Leneghan posted assists, and goalie Mackenzie Vorel made 11 saves. The Rams finish their season at 12-5-1. Addie Temkin also had an assist for Montclair, the second seed. Goalie Anjali Abram stopped 10 shots in the cage. The Mounties, now 17-4, will visit top seed Morristown for the North 1, Group IV title. Both squads come into the sectional final showdown ranked in the state's Top 20.
