VIDEO: One last shutout gives Delbarton state title against Pingry
Written by - Monday, November 18 2013

Completing a remarkable 18-game shutout streak to end the season, Delbarton won its second straight state soccer title with a 2-0 win over Pingry. Andrew Ford and Mike Moshier had the goals in the Non-Public A state final, held at The College of New Jersey.

Green Wave keeper Scott Forbes only had to make two saves for the clean sheet, but one was a real tester. He was also helped out on a key play by defender Brian Finn, who blocked a shot with Forbes out of position.

The game was scoreless until 10 minutes into the second half. Off a short corner, Jared Stroud made a tremendous move to make room for a cross. His pass found Ford, who leapt to head the ball into the top corner of the net to break the deadlock.

Eight minutes later, Stephen Kovalsky set up Moshier for the second goal, which pretty much ended any doubt about the outcome. Pingry couldn't muster much in the way of a threat after that, and whatever they tried was thwarted by the Green Wave defense.

It's the second straight year that Delbarton has defeated the Big Blue in the Non-Public A state final. Max Lurie had seven saves for Pingry, which finishes the season 15-5-1.

Delbarton won its final 20 games in a row to end the year 21-1-1. The Green Wave's only defeat came against an out-of-state opponent. They allowed a grand total of three goals all year, and ended the year without conceding a goal for nearly 1,500 consecutive minutes. Those facts make it more than likely that Delbarton will be ranked the #1 boys' soccer team in New Jersey for a second straight season.
