Delbarton brought a lineup loaded with stud wrestlers into its sectional semifinal matchup against Bergen Catholic. It wasn't quite enough for the Green Wave against the top-ranked wrestling team in New Jersey. Bergen Catholic built a big lead over the opening nine bouts, then held on as Delbarton won the final five matchups. The 36-29 victory puts the Crusaders into the North Non-Public A sectional final against archrival Don Bosco Prep.
The Crusaders rode pins by Johnny Sebastian, Christian Jenco and Nick Suriano to a 28-point advantage before Delbarton's late surge. Bergen Catholic also received two forfeit victories. The Green Wave got bonus points in three of the final five bouts, but needed nearly all pins in order to pull off the comeback. Still, Delbarton got closer to Bergen Catholic than any other NJSIAA member school this season. The Green Wave is 14-4 and should make a lot of noise in the upcoming individual state tournament. Bergen Catholic is 21-4 overall. The Crusaders' only losses came to prep school powerhouse Blair Academy and three out-of-state opponents.
