VIDEO: Oak Knoll beats Madison in overtime in field hockey TOC
Written by - Wednesday, November 18 2015

Just seconds away from defeat, Oak Knoll scored to force overtime, then pulled out a thrilling win in the field hockey Tournament of Champions semifinals. Gabby Andretta scored the game-winning goal for the Royals in their 4-3 triumph over Madison.

Andretta made a steal, then moved into the circle and scored on a well-placed shot with about two minutes left in the first overtime period. But Oak Knoll would not have even had the chance to play the extra session without some dramatics late in regulation.

Kirby Comizio deflected a shot by Ali McCarthy off a corner with just 30 seconds to play to tie the game. It was a crucial turning point in a game full of momentum swings for both sides.

Madison had the clear edge in play during the first half, but could only muster a 1-1 tie at the break. Oak Knoll got a remarkable defensive play from Bella Brosie to save a goal, while goalie Jordan McGinley was also on her game.

The Royals took the lead in the second half, only to see Madison respond with the next two goals. Lauren Taylor's tip-in with under six minutes to play put the Dodgers in position to win the game before the last-minute response by Comizio.

Comizio also made a game-saving play early in overtime, blocking a shot and clearing it off the goal line following a Madison corner. Oak Knoll then had a golden chance to win, but Dodgers' goalie Emilie Flamme stopped a penalty stroke by Comizio.

McCarthy had a goal and two assists for Non-Public state champ Oak Knoll, and Kendall Hanlon also scored. McGinley made 18 saves.

Stephanie Dellavia recorded a goal and an assist for Madison, the Group II state champion. Jennifer Conroy also scored and Flamme had 10 stops. The Dodgers finish the season 21-3.

Oak Knoll is now 24-1 and will play the only team to defeat it this season, Eastern Regional, in the Tournament of Champions final.
