A tie is often a disappointing result, but that was not the case for the Montclair Kimberley ice hockey team in its road game against Randolph. Despite being badly outshot, the Cougars rallied in the latter half of the third period to forge a 4-4 tie with the Rams. Goals by Devin Pepe and Brian Schindler in the final seven minutes allowed MKA to erase a two-goal deficit. Freshman goalie Alex Contey made 36 saves to keep the Cougars in the game and make the comeback possible.
Pepe scored twice for the Cougars, while Schindler added two assists to his game-tying goal. Conor Nolan notched a goal and an assist for MKA. Randolph got a goal and an assist apiece from Dan Janson and Chris Holowko. Sean Jones and Adam Redgate also scored for the Rams, while Luc Swedlund made 13 saves. The Rams outshot MKA 16-4 in the second period, and 40-17 for the game. The non-league contest was played at Aspen Ice in Randolph. Randolph is now 6-1-1 on the season. MKA bounced back from a loss a day earlier and is now 4-4-2 overall. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey high school boys' ice hockey game, click play in the box at left. |
