Ally Detre supplied all the offense as the Morristown-Beard girls' ice hockey team picked up a hard-fought home victory over the Portledge School of New York. Detre had the hat trick in the Crimson's 3-1 triumph. The sophomore scored just seconds into the game to put Morristown-Beard ahead, then doubled the lead later in the first period. After Portledge cut the lead to 2-1 late in the second stanza, Detre added her third tally early in the third.
Holly Ackerman created a number of chances for Portledge and scored the Panthers' only goal of the game. But she was denied on a couple of other occasions by Lindsay Pych, who ended up with 11 saves for Morristown-Beard. Jenna Kurz had assists on each of Detre's goals for the Crimson, who improve to 15-3 on the season. With just a couple more regular-season games left, Morristown-Beard is aiming for the WIHLMA league championship coming up on Presidents' Day weekend at Princeton Day School. Portledge falls to 2-11-1. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey vs. New York high school girls' ice hockey game, click play in the box at left. |
