Wayne Valley is enjoying a fine start to its field hockey season. But the Indians had to work pretty hard to ensure a victory over a struggling Pompton Lakes team. Samantha Peterson's goal off a set-up from Melissa Choka in the second half provided the only scoring as the Indians posted a 1-0 victory. Wayne Valley controlled most of the second half after a fairly even first stanza.
Sara Piekarz made three saves for the Indians, who improved to 4-1 overall. Pompton Lakes drops to 0-5-1 on the season; the Cardinals have scored just one goal in their six games to date.
