Last year, Clifton spoiled the party for Wayne Hills in the Passaic County tournament final, capturing the title with a single goal. In the 2013 championship, again just one goal found the net, but this time it was the Patriots who converted and earned the crown. Meghan Griffin, who was thwarted several times in the first half, raced in from the left wing early in the second half to put the ball home. Wayne Hills then made that goal stand up and posted the 1-0 triumph.
It would have been more lopsided if not for the efforts of Clifton goalie Rachel Egyed, who made seven saves. Wayne Hills had the better of play for most of the contest, especially when it had the wind at its back in the first half. Clifton did create a few good scoring chances in the second half, but Patriots goalkeeper Erica Knudsen denied them. Knudsen had three saves as the Patriots won their 15th consecutive game. This is the 10th girls' soccer county title for Wayne Hills. It's the second time (along with 1995) that the Patriots won both the boys' and girls' crowns in the same season.
