Overlooked entering the field hockey postseason, West Milford is now just a win away from a sectional title. The Highlanders upset Wayne Hills in the North 1, Group III semifinals, 1-0. It's their second straight win over a higher seed. Callie Schultz scored the goal in the first half off a feed from Julia Norman. West Milford had the better of play in the first half, then survived a frantic series of attacks from Wayne Hills in the later stages of the game. Highlanders' goalie Breanna Csakvary made 18 saves to preserve the lead.
Christina Fabiano had 10 saves for the Patriots. The Passaic County champions were the #2 seed in the section but see their season end with just their second loss of the year, with a final record of 18-2-1. West Milford, the sixth seed, is now 13-8 after an up-and-down regular season. The Highlanders will travel to face top seed Northern Highlands in the section final on Monday.
