The winds were howling and the ball was flying all over the yard. But state-ranked DePaul was able to rally from a fifth-inning deficit for an 11-7 softball victory over Passaic Tech. The Spartans scored four times in both the fifth and sixth innings to erase a two-run Tech lead. Danielle Trongone had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for DePaul.
Bella Jachera had two runs batted in for the Spartans and Shannon Marmo added an RBI single. DePaul also took advantage of several miscues in the field by the Bulldogs, including some balls that were clearly impacted by the strong wind. Passaic Tech had the big hits on the day, a three-run home run by Amirah Chaney and a solo homer for Jenna Frei. Jenna Turkousky and Chaz Wozney added RBI singles for the Bulldogs, who fall to 8-4. Alyssa LaGuardia struck out nine batters in five innings and got the win. Akilah Mouzon pitched the final two innings and recorded four strikeouts for the save. DePaul is now 6-2.
