The annual boys' lacrosse meeting of Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills is always intense no matter what the records. But with both teams enjoying fine seasons, this one had a little extra juice. Fittingly, the game ended up in overtime, and Alec Doyle provided the heroics, converting on a pass from Billy Crank for the game-winner in a 6-5 win for Wayne Valley. The Indians erased a two-goal deficit to pull out the victory.
Crank had two goals and two assists for the Indians. Ryan Leonard also scored twice, while Robert Papa added a goal and three assists. Darren Schweibel had two goals and an assist for Wayne Hills. Steve Prince added two goals, and defenseman Chris Schiavone also scored. Goalie Jake O'Brien made 11 saves. The heartbreaking loss drops the Patriots to 7-5 on the season. Wayne Valley captured its fourth straight win to improve to 9-3. The two teams could meet again in the Passaic County final in a week, but would have to win two games apiece before that could happen.
