Despite similar records, Lakeland and Wayne Valley weren't considered on the same level coming into their baseball game. The Indians proved a point and earned a big win by edging the Lancers, 3-1. Mike Elia pitched a complete-game five-hitter for Wayne Valley, striking out four and walking two. After allowing a run in the top of the fifth, Elia induced a key double play, then retired Lakeland in order in the final two innings.
Jake Andersen put Wayne Valley ahead with an RBI single in the third inning. Dan Wronka added a two-run single in the fourth to extend the Indians' lead. J.T. Somwaru drove in the only run for Lakeland with his fifth-inning base hit. Bo Gilligan allowed just five hits on the hill for the Lancers. Lakeland came into the game at 10-4, ranked #11 in North Jersey and the second seed in the Passaic County tournament. Meantime, Wayne Valley was 10-5 coming in, but was unranked and received just the #6 seed in the counties.
