For most of the Passaic County girls' lacrosse final, Lakeland gave top seed Wayne Hills all it wanted. But down the stretch, the Patriots pulled away to secure the county title and keep their unbeaten season going. Wayne Hills scored the final five goals to win, 14-9. It's the first county championship in four years for the Patriots, who gained revenge for an overtime loss to Lakeland in last year's final.
Ilyeana Little led Wayne Hills with five goals and two assists. Sabrini Sirni scored three times, while Kristen Russo and Gabriella Bussanich added two goals apiece. Goalie Christina Vittas made 15 saves. Lakeland, the #2 seed, got two goals and two assists apiece from Annie Yost and Alex Faeth. Monica Scafuro and Briella Stacharczyk also had two goals each for the Lancers. Lakeland is now 17-2, with both losses coming against Wayne Hills. The Patriots are 17-0 with the state playoffs scheduled to begin this coming week.
