It was all DePaul in a quarterfinal round softball sectional game against Pope John. Ashley LaGuardia pitched a no-hitter while the Spartans had 12 hits en route to an 8-0 victory. LaGuardia struck out eight batters while allowing four walks in her gem. She had the advantage of pitching from ahead nearly the entire game, as DePaul struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game.
Ronnie Vergara drove in the first run with a single and then blasted a solo home run in the second inning for the Spartans. Amanda Ayala went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Morgan O'Neill drove in a pair of runs with a walk and a sacrifice fly. Bella Jachera and Shannon Marmo also had RBI hits for DePaul, which pretty much put the game away with three runs in the fourth inning. Pope John, the sixth seed in the North Non-Public A bracket, finishes its season a 14-10. Third-seeded DePaul, which won the Passaic County tournament title earlier this week, awaits the winner of Mount St. Dominic and Union Catholic in the sectional semifinal.
