In a game featuring huge rallies for both teams, Saddle Brook scratched out the run it needed for a 10-9 softball opening day victory over Pompton Lakes. Ana Sand punched a base hit just past the second baseman to bring in the tie-breaking run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Falcons earned the win despite giving up a five-run lead.
Saddle Brook's Darian Kraueter delivered a pair of tape-measure home runs to highlight the Falcons' eight-run rally in the fourth inning. Kraueter homered to start the rally, then capped it with a two-run blast. Alexis DiPeri and Morgan Santora had RBI singles and Sarah Esposito's bloop single drove in two runs. But Pompton Lakes rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game. The key blow was a three-run home run from Sam Beazley. Earlier, the Cardinals' Casey Ramirez had a two-run single to give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead.
