With Carlie Corrigan pitching a two-hit shutout and Shannon Johnson providing most of the offensive punch as well as defensive presence, the Caldwell softball team earned a 3-0 shutout win over Pompton Lakes. Corrigan struck out three and walked two in pitching her gem. She allowed just a pair of singles and never permitted more than one runner on base in any inning.
Johnson went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in a pair of runs. Her two-out single in the first inning staked the Chiefs to a 1-0 lead, before she capped a two-run sixth inning with another RBI single. Defensively, Johnson turned a pair of line drives into inning-ending double plays. She also made a nice catch on a looping liner for the game's final out. Anna Rowland reached base twice and scored two runs for Caldwell. Nina Ricci had a hit and a run scored. Pompton Lakes pitcher Erin Keating allowed five hits while striking out three and walking one. Jen Larson and Gianna Stygar had the hits for the Cardinals, who fall to 4-5. Caldwell is now 8-1 on the season.
