In an up-and-down season, the Lakeland boys' lacrosse team has had plenty of experience with close games. The Lancers came out on the right side of a one-goal battle with Livingston, pulling out a 6-5 triumph. Michael Wilson scored two goals and added an assist for Lakeland. Luke Broderick had a goal and two assists, while Michael Rossi notched a goal and an assist. Jack Henderson and Justin Register also scored for the home team.
Goalie Anthony Scafuro made 12 saves for Lakeland. Livingston got three goals from Jared Bayer, while Jason Scher had a goal and four assists. Ryan Valese had the other goal for Livingston, also known as the Lancers, and Stephen Russo made 16 saves. With the loss, Livingston is now 3-8. Despite a 6-7 record, Lakeland is the top seed in the upcoming Passaic County Tournament. That event appears to be wide open; Lakeland defeated the second and third seeds (West Milford and Wayne Hills) but lost to the fourth and fifth seeds (Wayne Valley and DePaul). All of those games were decided by a single goal. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey high school boys' lacrosse game, click play in the box at left. |
