|VIDEO: Lakeland soars past Wayne Valley into county lax final|
For the Lakeland boys' lacrosse team, this was a most satisfying victory. Now the Lancers stand on the precipice of history.
Rallying from an early deficit, Lakeland defeated Wayne Valley 12-10 in the semifinals of the Passaic County tournament. Kyle Allegrini led the third-seeded Lancers with three goals and four assists.
The Lancers lost to Wayne Valley in last year's county final, 12-5. That disappointment stuck with them, and made this semifinal triumph even sweeter for Lakeland.
James Carroll scored three times for the Lancers, while Ray Nyhuis and Anthony DeMario had two apiece. Goalie Conner Evans made 12 saves in the game, played at DePaul High School.
Robert Papa had four goals and a pair of assists for second seed Wayne Valley. Alec Doyle and David Drozjock added two apiece for the Indians, who fall to 7-7.
Lakeland is now 11-4 and will take on top seed Clifton on Saturday as it seeks its first-ever county title. The Mustangs edged red-hot DePaul 11-10 in overtime in the other semifinal.
The championship game is slated for Wayne Hills at 2:00.
