|VIDEO: Midland Park stays perfect with victory over Bogota|
The Midland Park girls' basketball team says it's feeling pressure to follow up on its sectional championship last season. But the Panthers are doing a good job so far of not allowing that pressure to get to them on the court.
Shaking off a slow start, Midland Park pulled away from Bogota for a 62-31 home triumph. The win pushes the Panthers' record this season to 5-0.
Amanda Parker and Nicole Cartaino led Midland Park with 12 points apiece, while Thalia Ghalam added 11 in a balanced team effort. The Panthers' top scorer, Rebecca Rabeiro, had six points before injuring a finger and sitting out the second half.
Bogota started out hot from beyond the three-point arc, hitting three treys to take a 14-8 lead in the first quarter. But Midland Park scored the final 11 points of the period, and stretched that into a 23-1 run to take complete control of the game by the half.
Stephanie Perpepaj led the Bucs with 12 points, while Kristin Batista scored 10. Bogota, which has faced a very difficult schedule thus far, falls to 0-5.
