Passaic Valley was firing away from long range in its preliminary round Passaic County girls' basketball game against Mary Help of Christians. The Hornets hit 11 three-pointers as they rolled to a 54-25 win.

Caroline Koboska drained four treys and led Passaic Valley with 18 points. Deanna Duran scored 15 points, all on three-pointers, while Jessica Sole added 14 for the Hornets.

Passaic Valley built a big lead after one quarter and led 37-10 at the half.

Mary Help of Christians, the 15th seed in the Passaic County tournament, got 10 points from Serynna Reyes. The Blue Jays are 1-11 on the season.

Tenth seed Passaic Valley moves on to the first round of the PCT to take on Wayne Hills on Saturday, February 8. Under an experimental format being used for this year's county tournament, the top four seeds get a double bye, while seeds 5 through 8 also get a bye in the preliminary round.

Passaic Valley is 6-5.
