|VIDEO: Wayne Hills scores huge victory over Ramapo in overtime|
With a landmark victory slipping from their grasp, somehow the Wayne Hills Patriots found a way to secure the win.
James Bernard scored just before the end of the second overtime as Wayne Hills upset Ramapo, 7-6. It's the first time in the history of the Patriots' boys' lacrosse program that they have knocked off the Raiders.
Wayne Hills led for most of the game, building two-goal leads on three different occasions. But Ramapo rallied back, tying the game 6-6 with just over two minutes left in regulation. The Raiders then held possession for the rest of the fourth quarter, plus most of the first and second overtimes, but could not get a winner past Patriots goalie Jake O'Brien.
Finally, in the waning seconds of the second OT, Steve Prince sent the ball toward Bernard, who turned and shot just in time to give Wayne Hills the huge win.
Bernard scored three times with an assist for the Patriots, while Jake Van Peenan had four goals and an assist. O'Brien made 14 saves.
Kyle Karsian led the Ramapo offense with three goals and two assists. Andrew Robbins scored twice, while Nate Chung made 15 saves. The Raiders fall to 5-1 on the season.
With the win, Wayne Hills is now also 5-1.
