VIDEO: Ramsey grabs state title with win over Robbinsville | ||
|
For the first time in 24 years, Ramsey is a softball state champion. Behind a brilliant two-hit shutout by Katie Olson, Ramsey defeated Robbinsville 3-0 to capture the Group II state title. The Rams hadn't played in a state final since 1993 and had not won a championship since 1991.
Ramsey scored once in the second inning to take the early lead. Sara Novak singled to drive in Abby Triglia. The Rams made solid contact throughout the game, totalling 11 hits on the day. But the score remained 1-0 until a two-out rally in the top of the sixth. Sophie Blasius and Holly Cook both singled, and Triglia smacked a double to right field to bring in one run. Olson then singled into right to plate a second run and make it 3-0. In the circle, Olson retired the final 11 batters of the game. She allowed just two singles and one walk, and never permitted a Robbinsville player past first base. The Ravens finish at 25-4; they were playing in the Group II state final for the fifth straight season. Robbinsville has won twice but this was its second consecutive finals defeat. Ramsey ends the season at 25-5. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey high school girls' softball state tournament final, click play in the box at left. |
