Like the proverbial snowball rolling downhill, once the Madison ice hockey team got going, it turned into an avalanche. The Dodgers scored seven goals in the third period, including six in the final eight-plus minutes, to win their first-round state tournament game over Ramapo, 8-2. Madison trailed in the opening minute of that final period before the huge explosion.
Ryan Carson had the hat trick for Madison, including the tying and go-ahead goals. Jared Finnerty, Aaron Willsea and Gus Haralampoudis had a goal and an assist each. Charlie Cleaves and Joey Goret also scored for the Dodgers. Goalie Kavi Sinha made 25 saves, and was key in the first two periods as the Madison offense struggled. Graham Key and Dalton Graham had the goals for 24th seed Ramapo, which took a 2-1 lead in the opening seconds of the third period. But Madison tied the game moments later, and dominated the remainder of the contest at Mennen Arena. Cort Fodi had 36 saves for the Green Raiders, who finish the season 8-10-6. Madison is now 14-11-1. The ninth-seeded Dodgers will take on the winner of Kinnelon and Vernon in the second round of the Public B state tournament.
