VIDEO: Defense dominates as Summit holds off Seton Hall Prep | ||
|
Summit put on a defensive clinic as it remained undefeated in a 5-3 boys' lacrosse triumph over Seton Hall Prep. The Hilltoppers caused countless turnovers and allowed just 10 shots on goal to a high-powered offensive team. It was a far cry from last year's meeting between these two teams, when Seton Hall scored a whopping 13 goals in a victory. With the triumph, Summit improves to 11-0 on the season and remains ranked #2 in New Jersey.
Evan Kulpan had two goals for Summit. Chris Fowler and Andrew Chase notched a goal and an assist apiece, and Brian Hagan also scored for the Hilltoppers. Ted Cranley made seven saves. Goalie Colin Kirst was the star for Seton Hall, keeping his team in the game with 13 saves. It was a meaningful day for Kirst, whose father, the former Summit assistant coach, passed away last year. He and his brother shook hands with the entire Summit team prior to the start of the game. A monument to Kyle Kirst, credited as the mastermind behind Summit's stifling defense, now sits near the field at Tatlock Park. Griffin Westlin had two goals and an assist for Seton Hall. Brian Tevlin also scored, but the Pirates fall to 6-4. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey and Fitch-Pitt Division high school boys' lacrosse game, click play in the box at left. |
