|VIDEO: Bergen Catholic battles by Don Bosco in county tournament|
With contributions from expected sources, and one not-so-expected player, Bergen Catholic defeated archrival Don Bosco Prep in the Bergen County boys' lacrosse tournament. The Crusaders scored twice in the final two minutes to pull out the 8-6 quarterfinal win.
Jeremy Magno, Bergen Catholic's leading scorer, had three goals, including the go-ahead tally and the insurance goal moments later. Trevor Weingarten scored once and helped the Crusaders dominate on face-offs.
But it was Anthony Scozzafava who earned the game ball for Bergen Catholic. The junior, who began the season largely playing on the JV team, scored two goals and added two assists. Scozzafava set up Magno's go-ahead goal with 1:35 to play after Don Bosco had erased a two-goal deficit.
Shane Fable and Frankie Feaster also scored for the Crusaders and Matt DiScola made four saves.
Don Bosco led for most of the first half before a late rally by BC to tie the game at halftime. Russell Masci scored three goals to lead the Ironmen.
Dom Branda had a goal and an assist, while Andrew Kim and Justin Kim both scored goals. Steve Rann stopped nine shots for Don Bosco. The fifth-seeded Ironmen fall to 5-8.
Bergen Catholic avenged a 6-4 regular-season loss to Don Bosco and advanced to the county semifinals. The fourth-seeded Crusaders, now 9-5, take on top seed Ridgewood.
