|VIDEO: Paramus Catholic pulls out thrilling win over #1 St. Peter's|
So who's #1 now?
Paramus Catholic created more chaos in the rankings for New Jersey high school football by knocking off top-ranked St. Peter's Prep. Andrew Brito tossed a late touchdown pass to Henry Pearson and the bend-but-don't-break Paladins defense made it stand up for a 28-21 triumph.
Brito rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns for Paramus Catholic, while compiled over 300 yards total on the ground. Alijah Jackson ran for 126 yards, including a 96-yard dash, while Jonathan Clark added 64 yards rushing.
In the passing game, Brito was just 12-for-32, but made several key plays. Five of the completions went to Pearson for 58 yards, including the game-winner on a fourth down play.
After that touchdown, St. Peter's drove into the red zone, but the Paramus Catholic defense stopped quarterback Johnathan Lewis a couple of yards short on a fourth down to end the game.
St. Peter's moved the ball effectively all game, with over 400 yards of offense. But on six drives into Paramus Catholic territory, the Marauders scored just once; they had a lost fumble, a missed field goal and punted twice along with the failed fourth-down attempt at the end.
Lewis ran for 110 yards and a touchdown, and also compiled 210 passing yards and a score. Dakari Falconer was the leading St. Peter's rusher with 116 yards.
The passing connection of Lewis to Jorge Portorreal did serious damage throughout the night, with Portorreal catching eight passes for 164 yards. That included an 83-yard touchdown on which Portorreal made a one-handed grab on a screen pass and then eluded three defenders.
Zamir Mickens also had an interception return for a score for the Marauders, who fall to 3-1.
Paramus Catholic is now 4-1.
