VIDEO: Bergen Catholic blasts St. Augustine in playoff opener
Written by - Saturday, November 12 2016

Many anticipated an epic first-round state football playoff game between one of North Jersey's superpowers and the best team in South Jersey. Instead, it turned into an epic blowout.

Bergen Catholic put up half a hundred points in the first half as it sank St. Augustine, 57-33. The Crusaders dominated in all aspects of the game, with special teams making a major difference in the contest.

Offensively, Bergen Catholic enjoyed its biggest game of the season. Johnny Langan completed 11-of-17 passes for 180 yards and four touchdowns. Langan also ran for 79 yards and a score.

Andrew Vito caught five passes for 74 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Ankaury Camilo made four grabs for 90 yards and one touchdown, and Isaiah Givens also had a TD catch.

Josh McKenzie ran for 61 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Crusaders, who led 50-13 at halftime.

The Palmer twins also made a major impact on the game for Bergen Catholic. Nick Palmer blocked a punt and made an interception, while Patrick Palmer had an interception and recovered a kickoff that St. Augustine failed to field.

The Hermits came into this game undefeated and ranked above Bergen Catholic in some polls. But things quickly unraveled for the team that had allowed under 11 points per game during the regular season.

Offensively, seventh-seeded St. Augustine had some moments, mainly provided by Ezekial Ennis. Ennis ran for 128 yards and a touchdown, and caught three passes for 64 yards and a pair of scores.

Josh Zamot threw three touchdown passes for the Hermits. Jaylen DeCoteau caught three balls for 79 yards and a score. St. Augustine finishes the season 9-1.

Bergen Catholic improves to 7-3. The second-seeded Crusaders host third seed St. Peter's Prep in a big semifinal showdown this coming weekend.
