VIDEO: LoPresti leads Passaic Valley to final win over Ramapo
Written by - Friday, February 17 2017

On a memorable night for Alex LoPresti, the Passaic Valley/Cedar Grove ice hockey team won its first trophy in over seven years. The Hornets jumped ahead early and defeated Ramapo, 5-2, to claim the Big North Bronze Cup.

LoPresti recorded a hat trick, with two goals standing out in particular. His first marked the 100th point of his high school career for the junior forward. But it was his second goal that will prove most memorable.

With the Hornets leading 2-1, LoPresti moved in front of the Ramapo net. As he appeared ready to take a backhander, LoPresti instead pulled the puck back between his legs and flipped it over the stunned goalie for a remarkable goal.

Joe Kubu had a goal and two assists for Passaic Valley, which was the top seed in the Bronze Cup tournament. Nick LoPresti added a goal and an assist, while goalie Nicolas DiNardo made 16 saves.

Ramapo scored both its goals in the second period, with Michael Lagana and Jake Trabattoni finding the back of the net. Zach Van Peenan had an assist, and Luke Mutterer made 21 saves.

The second-seeded Green Raiders, who were hoping to win this title after a rough season, finish the year at 5-17-3.

For Passaic Valley, it's the first trophy since winning the Passaic County Tournament in the 2009-10 season. The Hornets went to 12-9-1 with the win.
