Written by - Wednesday, March 1 2017

It was a night of multiple celebrations for the Christ the King Prep boys' basketball team. The Knights not only beat Eastern Christian in the first round of the state playoffs, but also saw two players reach major scoring milestones in the 64-52 victory.

Senior Mike Isaac scored his 1,000th career point on a basket in the second quarter. Not to be outdone, fellow senior Najee Pride waited until the final seconds before hitting a free throw to reach the 1,500-point mark for his career.

Isaac ended up with 16 points and five assists for Christ the King, the fifth seed in the North Non-Public B bracket. Alonzo Herran also scored 16 points.

Emmanuel Toha notched 14 points and four steals for the Knights, while Pride ended up with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Eastern Christian, the 12th seed, managed to hang in the game until the final minutes behind the efforts of Quincy Rutherford. The senior capped his career with a 20-point game while also grabbing numerous rebounds.

Ben Parker had 12 points for the Eagles and Jared Post scored eight. Eastern Christian finishes the season with a 10-15 record.

Christ the King improves to 23-4. The Knights move on to face fourth seed Morristown-Beard in what promises to be an exciting second-round match-up.
