Montclair and its new head baseball coach, Anthony Genchi, had to wait a while to break into the win column this season. The Mounties busted through for win number one with a solid 8-1 effort against Clifton. Scott Murnick kept the Mustangs at bay over six innings and the Montclair offense took advantage of its scoring opportunities. DeAndre Smith delivered a sacrifice fly as part of a three-run fourth that broke open a close game. It was one of two sac flies on the day for Smith.
Casey Nadison knocked in a pair of runs with a sixth-inning single and Matt McGoey also had an RBI for Montclair. Tyler Lavin drove in the only run for Clifton. Luis Ramos went the distance on the mound for the Mustangs, who fall to 2-9 on the season. The Mounties are now 1-7.
