Boonton hadn't had much to cheer about this baseball season. But the Bombers came out hitting against a strong Pompton Lakes team and rolled to a stunning 10-2 victory. The Bombers pounded out 17 hits in the game. Gage Cabalar went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and drove in four runs. Michael Napolitano was 3-for-4, including a triple, and had 2 RBI, while Ian Havran also delivered three hits and scored three runs. Justin Adriazola added two hits and two RBI for Boonton.
Napolitano came on to pitch in the third inning and kept Pompton Lakes off the scoreboard the rest of the way to earn the win. The righty allowed seven baserunners but kept pitching out of trouble. He was also helped out by a diving catch in center field by Havran, which probably saved two runs. Pompton Lakes took the early lead, scoring twice in the first inning on hits by Kevin McGee and Eric Moeltner. But the Cardinals were frustrated the rest of the way. They will hope this is only a hiccup in what they expect to be a big season; the loss drops Pompton Lakes to 9-3. On the flip side, Boonton lost its first 10 games of the season before finally breaking into the win column in its previous game. Now 2-10, the Bombers hope to build off the momentum from this victory. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey high school boys' baseball game, click play in the box at left. |
