The legs of Alex Wasserman carried him to a huge game and lifted Demarest to its seventh victory of the football season. They also ran off with Wayne Valley's last hopes of reaching the state playoffs. Wasserman carried 21 times for 244 yards and five touchdowns in Demarest's 46-10 triumph. The senior running back also caught a 67-yard touchdown pass from Sean Jansson as part of his outstanding offensive effort.
Wayne Valley kicked a field goal on its opening possession, but the Norsemen's defense held the Indians in check for the next three quarters. Demarest took the lead on Jansspn's touchdown throw to Wasserman, then seized control in the second quarter with three scores. Matt Lee also had a touchdown run for Demarest, which already knew it had qualified for the state playoffs. Despite the victory, the 7-1 Norsemen will apparently be forced to go on the road in the first round of the very difficult North 1, Group IV bracket. Wayne Valley falls to 4-4. With both teams now officially out of the state tournament, next week's game between Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills becomes a playoff game for both squads.
