In what was mostly a disappointing season, this was a night of great satisfaction for the Wayne Hills football team. The Patriots dominated crosstown rivals Wayne Valley, jumping out to an early lead and rolling to a 36-0 victory. Justin Hogan and Chris Garrone ran for two touchdowns apiece for the Patriots.
Wayne Hills quarterback Pete Palczewski hit Joey Kenny on a 55-yard touchdown pass that gave the Patriots a 15-0 lead just four minutes into the game. Palczewski, whose father is the principal at Wayne Valley, threw for 119 yards to help defeat the Indians. Wayne Valley could never get its offense untracked, managing just 91 total yards on the night. The Indians' passing game was totally stifled, though quarterback Nick Goodwin did manage to run for 64 yards. The win offers a measure of satisfaction for the Patriots, who finish the regular season 4-5. Though they missed the state playoffs for the first time in 20 years, they did defeat their two biggest rivals (Ramapo and Wayne Valley). Wayne Hills will play next week in a consolation game. Wayne Valley falls to 4-5 and will also conclude its season with a consolation game.
