DePaul got a brutal stretch of matches off on the right foot, posting a 45-28 wrestling win over St. Joseph (Montvale). Capturing eight of the 12 contested matches, including four pins, the Spartans rolled to victory over a quality opponent. It was the first Big North United Division match for each team.
Dino Cancelleri, Ryan Karsen, Matt Noble and Scott Lavelle recorded falls for DePaul. Defending state champion Dave McFadden notched a technical fall victory. The Spartans won eight of the nine bouts between 120 and 182 pounds, including one forfeit. St. Joe's got pins from Jason DalCortivo, Matt Zovistoski and Anthony Delle Fave. The Green Knights are 2-3 in dual meets this season. DePaul improves to 9-0. The Spartans are ranked #8 in New Jersey, but will have several chances to prove they should be higher on the list. DePaul could meet #2 Bound Brook in this weekend's Pequannock Duals, then hosts #1 Bergen Catholic on Monday. The Spartans face another Top 20 team in Don Bosco Prep on Wednesday, and also have a match slated with #3 St. Peter's Prep later in the season.
