With Remy Parker and Michael Gerne supplying the offense, and Ondrej Smalec serving as the backbone of the defense, Montclair won its own holiday ice hockey tournament for the second straight year. The Mounties scored an impressive 6-0 win over Ridgewood in the final. Parker and Gerne both recorded hat tricks for Montclair, with some flashy goals for both players. Parker, who also had an assist, opened the scoring by converting a penalty shot late in the first period.
After Parker made it 2-0 in the second, Gerne scored the next three goals for the Mounties. Parker then finished off the scoring with a remarkable display of skill for his own hat trick. Brock Bowers had three assists for Montclair. Smalec, the junior goalie, made 22 saves to earn the shutout. Allowing just one goal in the three games in the Montclair Holiday Invitational, Smalec was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Ridgewood goalie David Woodford had 26 saves. The Maroons, who had just one loss coming into this final, are now 5-2-1. Montclair maintains its undefeated record at 8-0.
