It has been a magical season thus far for the Montclair ice hockey team. And the Mounties' magic has been extremely potent on their home rink. Scoring several beautiful goals, Montclair knocked off Kinnelon 5-2 in its final scheduled regular-season contest. Remy Parker had two goals and an assist to lead the Mounties past the Colts, who play in Morris County's top Mennen Division.
With the game at Clary Anderson Arena tied 1-1 in the second period, Parker set up Brock Bowers for the go-ahead score. Just 20 seconds later, Parker intercepted a clearing pass and blasted a slapshot into the net to make it 3-1. Bowers notched a goal and two assists in the game, as did Mike Gerne. Conrad Sarbak added a goal and an assist. Ondrej Smalec stood tall in net once again for Montclair, making 31 saves. Steve Gakos and Jack Nussbaum had the goals for Kinnelon, and Sean Grant contributed two assists. Sean Hofmann stopped 27 shots. The Colts fall to 7-11-3 to wrap up the regular season. They are eligible to apply for the state tournament, and will compete in the Mennen Cup. Montclair, at 16-0-3, is sure to draw one of the top seeds in the Public A state tournament. Before that, the Mounties will look to win the McInnis Cup for the first time in 14 years.
