Riding a balanced offensive attack and solid defense, the North Hunterdon boys' lacrosse team moved on to the third round of the state tournament. The Lions, seeded sixth, pulled off the upset against third-seeded Morristown, winning 10-7. With the win, North Hunterdon also earned a surprising home game in the sectional semifinals in North Group IV.
Jake Pepe and Sean Wood contributed two goals and one assist apiece for the Lions in this quarterfinal. Jared McMahon also had a pair of goals. Nick Gurreri and Rob Marron both notched a goal and an assist for the Lions. Russ Hillman and Rob Scimeca also found the net. Goalie Zachary Koehler made 10 saves for North Hunterdon. Morristown got a hat trick from Joe Doherty. Connor Schwerdt had a goal and an assist, while Harrison Brown, Kyle Beyer and Andrew Chilson also scored for the Colonials. After an 11-game winning streak earlier in the season, Morristown lost four of its last five to finish 13-5. North Hunterdon is now 12-6. Although the semifinal game will be at home, it will be an even tougher test for the Lions, as they take on seventh-seeded Westfield; the Blue Devils are ranked in the state's Top 20 and come in off a big upset win over Ridgewood.
