For one quarter, it appeared St. Joseph of Metuchen might be able to give Seton Hall Prep a run for its money in the state boys' lacrosse tournament. Then came the second quarter.

Seton Hall scored nine times in that second period, including three goals in 21 seconds, to seize control of the Non-Public A quarterfinal contest. The third-seeded Pirates rolled to a 15-2 triumph over the Falcons.

Tied 1-1 entering the key quarter, Seton Hall scored three times before St. Joe's got one back to make it 4-2. Collin Leigh then won the next three faceoffs for the Pirates, leading to three goals in quick succession, including one that Leigh scored himself.

Griffin Westlin led Seton Hall with three goals and three assists. Sean Leahey also recorded a hat trick.

Brian Tevlin had two goals and two assists for the Pirates. Jack Sarson and Cole Kirst added two goals apiece. Jack Rutter had a goal and an assist and Thomas Colucci also scored.

Colin Kirst made six saves before leaving the game late in the third quarter.

Jimmy Tovey and Timmy Day had the goals for sixth-seeded St. Joe's. The Falcons, who haven't been back to the state finals since wining the Non-Public A title in 2010, finish the season 13-6.

Seton Hall Prep, now 15-4, moves on to the semifinals in what shapes up as a tremendous battle with Bergen Catholic, the second seed.
