Ridgewood had to twice rally from behind, then scored the winning run in extra innings as it advanced to the baseball sectional finals. The second-seeded Maroons pulled out a tight 6-5 win in eight innings over Paterson Eastside. Charlie Cardew drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with a single. Ridgewood had trailed 2-0 and 5-4 but managed to come back to push this North 1, Group IV sectional semifinal to extra frames.
Alex Shakibai drilled a solo home run for the Maroons. Nick Linton went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, while Chris Symington and Sean Cullen also had RBI for Ridgewood. The Maroons' fourth pitcher of the game, Bobby Sullivan, pitched a scoreless eighth inning and earned the win. Eastside scored twice in the first inning, including an RBI double from Tommy Rodriguez. After Ridgewood took a 4-2 lead, the Ghosts struck for three runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by Eduardo Sued's run-scoring triple. Harold Calero, Edwin Mendez and Erimir Vargas also drove in runs for sixth-seeded Eastside. The Ghosts finish the season 15-9. Ridgewood moves on to the North 1, Group IV sectional final at top seed Morristown. The Maroons, now 21-5, were bounced from the state tournament last year by the Colonials.
