Down in the third quarter of the boys' lacrosse Tournament of Champions quarterfinals, Pingry pulled together and came back. The Big Blue posted a 6-1 run in a six-minute stretch of the third and fourth quarters en route to a 10-8 win over Chatham. Jamie Zusi won six straight face-offs for Pingry and scored a goal in the key surge. The Big Blue took a four-goal lead, then held off Chatham's comeback attempt by holding the ball for most of the final five minutes of the game.
Thomas Zusi scored three goals for fourth-seeded Pingry, all in the first quarter. Jake Moss had two goals and two assists, and George Enman also scored twice. Austin Chang and Ben Shepard added goals for the Big Blue. David Metzger and Frankie Dillon combined to make 12 saves. Chatham got a three-goal effort from Austin Pierce. Mac Bredahl scored two goals and had an assist for the Cougars, who won the Group II state title and were seeded fifth in the TOC. Matt Coleman was credited with three assists and also appeared to deflect in a pass from Connor Byrd for the game's most unusual goal. Ryan Decker and Justin Hayes added goals for Chatham, which ends the season at 19-7. Pingry, the Non-Public B state champ, is now 16-3. The Big Blue will meet top seed Bridgewater-Raritan in the TOC semifinals; it's a rematch of last year's semifinal, won by the Panthers. Pingry also lost to Bridgewater in this season's Somerset County Tournament final.
