The end of the football game between Wayne Valley and West Milford managed to be both heart-pounding and heartwarming at the same time. With winless West Milford driving for a possible winning touchdown in the final seconds, Nick Gould picked off a deflected pass and returned it 88 yards for a clinching score for Wayne Valley. Then, the two-point conversion play brought smiles to all of the Indians' fans.
Robert Emolo, a Wayne Valley senior who could not play football for medical reasons but served as an assistant coach for the team for three years, got his chance to suit up. Emolo, who also has worked for Jersey Sports Now as a cameraman for several years, took a handoff and completed a pass to A.J. Tedesco for the two points that made the final score 42-28 for the Indians. Before the finale, West Milford made Wayne Valley sweat for its seventh win of the year. Quarterback Zack Milko ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns for the Highlanders, while also throwing for 126 yards and a score. Bobby Lavelle led West Milford in rushing with 98 yards and a score. Ryan Coyle had three receptions for 63 yards and Steven Schwake caught a touchdown pass. For Wayne Valley, Gould scored three touchdowns total. He ran for 85 yards and two scores along with his interception return at the end of the game. Grant Ferrauilo had a big game passing for the Indians, completing 18-of-26 throws for 252 yards and three touchdowns. Joe Scancarella caught all three of those scoring passes, and made nine grabs in total for 122 yards. Wayne Valley, now 7-1, will look to carry the good feelings from the end of this game into its regular-season finale, a showdown with crosstown rival Wayne Hills, which will come in with a 6-1 record. West Milford, which played its best game of the season, slips to 0-6.
