Glen Ridge has made an appearance in the Group I girls' soccer state final a nearly annual affair. The Ridgers booked their fourth trip to the finals in five years by defeating Park Ridge in the state semifinals, 3-1. Galen Lew scored two goals, both coming off corner kicks, to lead the way for Glen Ridge. Lew's first goal put the Ridgers ahead about 25 minutes into the contest at Indian Hills High School, and her second effectively sealed the win with 18 minutes to play.
Lindsay Jaiyesimi had Glen Ridge's second goal, off an assist from her sister Leslie just a minute after halftime. Colleen Grady and Katie Liu also recorded assists, and Ridgers goalie Victoria Woznick made several key saves. Park Ridge averted the shutout when Katrina Stangl scored with five minutes left in the game off a corner kick by Haley Raspanti. But the Owls did not threaten to score the rest of the way. It was a strong season for Park Ridge, which won its first sectional title in nine years and finished 19-4. The Owls have a strong group of young players and should be a threat again next year. Glen Ridge struggled to start the season, going 5-5-1 in its first 11 games. Since then, the Ridgers are 11-1 and captured their fifth straight sectional title. In this weekend's Group I final at Kean University, Glen Ridge will face Shore Regional, which is making its fifth straight visit to the championship game. Glen Ridge beat Shore in 2012 and shared the title with the Blue Devils in 2013, but Shore won last year's match-up in double overtime.
